In preparation for spring spawning at the NOBC hatchery at the Milford Lab, NOAA and OAI staff in Milford recently completed a practice run to ensure readiness for the upcoming season.

OAI employees recently partnered with USDA Agricultural Research Service collaborators in Kingston, RI to prepare oyster broodstock for the Northeast Oyster Breeding Center’s (NOBC) 2026 spawning season.
Half of the broodstock were transported to the Milford Lab for conditioning and spawning, supporting critical research efforts.
This work is part of a four-year task order supporting the Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s research in Milford, CT — advancing science that strengthens our region’s aquaculture and fisheries.
